Young architects told to engage with seniors

Young architects and designers undertaking their studies or those who have just graduated and embarking on their journey in their chosen field can benefit well from engaging with senior members of the architectural community in Brunei and around the region, President of Surveyors, Engineers and Architect (PUJA) Brunei Sr Haji Mohammad Hanafi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Abdul Rahman said.

He said this at the Committee of Architecture Education and Committee on Social Responsibility (ACAE-ACSR) Cross-Committee Roundtable (CCRT) Meeting 2023 at PUJA Hub at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday.

Haji Hanafi praised the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) for allowing PUJA to host the gathering, adding PUJA encourages the involvement of young professionals with each discipline having its own young professional group.

He added; “ARCASIA has a long history, with its formation celebrating its 55th anniversary next year and I believe the architects from PUJA have been active participants in your meetings and contributing to the discussions and fostering professional contacts.

“PUJA Brunei in its uniqueness is made up of members from three disciplines from the construction industry, comprising architects, engineers, and surveyors.”

“I understand there will be close to 110 students planning to attend tomorrow’s presentations,” Haji Hanafi said.

The event, which continues today will also feature a CPD Seminar on ‘Universal Design for Adaptive Reuse (UDAR) in the Society’ to be presented by several specialists and practitioners in the field. – Azlan Othman
