Wushu team welcomes Chinese, Australia delegation

The Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam received a delegation from China, who are on a visit to the Sultanate, at the team’s training ground at Menglait Sports Complex on Saturday.

President Lim Boon Hwa welcomed them alongside national wushu coaches Li Hui and Zhao Chunjie.

The Chinese delegation included Chief Referee in Wushu of the Southeast Asian Games Professor Li Shaocheng of Lanzhou University in China with his wife Chen Jing; Professor Shi Mei of Lanzhou University; Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 champion Chang Zhizhao; lecturers from the Wushu Department of Lanzhou University Wu Xinxin and Zhang Yunfei; and professor at Capital Institute of Physical Education and wushu judge Meng Tao.

According to coach Li Hui, professor Li Shaocheng admires the high skill levels of Bruneian athletes, especially Basma Lachkar.

The visiting professor was also delighted to learn that there will be continued succession of wushu in Brunei after seeing the training of some of the nation’s upcoming and new athletes.

Asian Games champ Chang Zhizhao also showcased his wushu skills during the visit.

Meanwhile, six elite wushu athletes from Australia, led by its head taolu coach Dr Tan Kee Lee, are in the country to train with the Brunei team for a week.

Li Hui said, “The visit will be a very good exchange with our athletes. Our image on the international stage is growing and we will continue to bring our athletes to the highest level at regional and international competitions.” – James Kon
