The support from former ministers, officers of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) has led to the success of the Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam, said the federation’s deputy president Dr Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman.
He also praised the federation leaders for their role in developing and ensuring the success of the sport in the Sultanate.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the federation’s 20th anniversary celebration, Dr Muhammad Firdaus said, “The Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam has reached 20 years of establishment and has progressed steadily in the country since then. The Brunei national wushu team has also achieved excellent results in regional and international competitions.”
He added, “the encouragement by wushu supporters provided the athletes the drive to get to where they are now. We also thank the coaches and parents for their support. The support can further lead the sport to new heights.”
Among the highlights of the event were a cake-cutting ceremony and presentation of excellent athlete, supporter and appreciation awards.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Lau How Teck, Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo, Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the MCYS Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin as well as former minister of culture, youth and sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah and Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud attended the celebration at Mulia Hotel on Friday.
