World is a garden as Brunei artist showcases paintings in Lyon

Local artist Hui Fong launched her solo exhibition in Lyon, France. The exhibition was on until February 8.

Her exhibition featured 17 of her paintings themed ‘The World is A Garden’, the continuation of Hui Fong’s ‘The Garden Rhapsodies’ series.

Hui Fong’s solo exhibition was organised by the Association des Amitiés Franco-Chinoise (AAFC), supported by la Mairie du 3ème arrondissement de Lyon (the Town Hall of the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon).

Hui Fong said, “I feel honoured to be able to combine traditional culture with innovative ideas through my artistic creation and build a bridge of friendship between Brunei and China, and France. This encouraged me to be more confident to continue to share culture, creativity and friendship on my artistic journey.”

China General Consul of Lyon Yu Jiang and Président de la Fédération des associations franco-chinoises Alain Labat were also present.

On the audience’s response of her painting, she said, “The paintings were well-received. The audience was captivated by some of the tropical fruits, flowers and plants. They also found the stories with a poetic touch very pleasant and heart-warming.”

The artworks showcased a garden series with Brunei’s local fruits and plants as part of the collection. Besides local flowers and plants ‘The World is A Garden’ also comprised plant paintings from Italy and France.

For the local flowers and plants, Hui Fong find inspiration from her father’s garden, which during the time of painting, she also learnt to tend the garden with her parents providing a sense of appreciation to mother nature. – James Kon
