The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) co-hosted a virtual workshop on the role of the UNDP in the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) yesterday.
The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness on the UNDP’s role in the implementation of the SDGs and to explore opportunities beneficial for Brunei Darussalam.
The workshop began with welcoming remarks from Permanent Secretary (Vision, Finance and Cabinet) at the PMO Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad as the Chairperson of the Special National Coordination Committee on the SDGs Brunei Darussalam, and UNDP Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Niloy Banerjee.
Briefings on UNDP’s experience in supporting the implementation of the SDGs were presented by UNDP and country associates from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The workshop also included briefing from the Director of Pejabat Wawasan Brunei, as the Head of the Secretariat of the Special National Coordinating Committee on SDGs which highlighted the Sultanate’s achievements in implementing the SDGs so far.
Closing remarks were presented by Permanent Secretary (Politics and International Organisations) at the MFA Pengiran Norhashimah binti Pengiran Mohd Hassan, and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Manon Bernier.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Vision, Finance and Cabinet) at the PMO, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MFA, Special National Coordinating Committee on SDGs members, as well as senior officials from other ministries, higher education institutions and non-government organisations also participated in the virtual workshop.
