Language is seen as core in the Language and Literature Bureau’s (DBP) efforts to empower and glorify the Malay language and jawi writing.
Head of Language Construction and Development Division Hajah Annisa binti Haji Moksin highlighted this during the closing ceremony of the Malay Language Grammar Strengthening workshop (BPTBM) yesterday.
She added, “In this case, the construction aspect plays an important role before the development of a certain knowledge.
“Therefore, the Language Construction and Development Division as a division should take the initiative to ensure that the use of the Malay language is practiced and practiced in the right way, in accordance with the rules and grammar, so that the exclusivity of the Malay language will continue to be defended as the language of knowledge.”
During the two-day workshop, participants were exposed to linguistic knowledge that is very useful in their fields of work and profession.
The workshop aimed to help the participants to hone their skills, especially editors in improving their mastery of correct Malay grammar to improve the quality of editing and writing in the country.
The BPTBM, she said, received a very encouraging response among the participants, as the average participant showed an interest in learning more about the teaching modules taught during the two-day workshop.
The participants were also very active in posing questions which showed that they understood the topic discussed and indirectly the teaching had a positive effect on the participants. She also said, “It is hoped that through this two-day knowledge sharing session, all participants will be able to gain shared knowledge to deepen their knowledge of grammar; improve skills and competence in editing and authorship so as to be able to apply them in editorial and writing work.
“It is desired that this useful knowledge can be a guide and measure in using and spreading the correct use of the Malay language in the field of work and daily life.”
The event also saw remarks from Assistant Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Hasmidar binti Hassan and the workshop’s lead participant DBP Language Officer Raieham bin Mohd Salleh.
DBP Acting Director Hajah Haireni binti Haji Damit presented certificates to the facilitator and the participants. – Fadhil Yunus
