Workplace ethics highlighted in Friday sermon

In the Friday sermon today, Muslim leaders emphasised the importance of maintaining integrity and dedication in the workplace.

Imams urged Muslims to uphold their working hours, share honest opinions, avoid bribery, breach of trust, and misuse of power while carrying out their duties responsibly and diligently.

The sermon aimed to highlight the significance of trust placed in employees.

Imams also encouraged Muslims to view their entire lives as an act of worship. Seeking sustenance through work, when done with the intention of serving Allah the Almighty, is considered a form of worship. It was emphasised that one’s job and work practices should align with and adhere to Shariah law, ensuring ethical conduct.

In the sermon, Imams said the primary objective of work is not only to provide for oneself and one’s family but also to seek divine reward and the pleasure of Allah the Almighty, and also said that neglecting one’s job is characterised as a betrayal of this responsibility.

The sermon also drew attention to the traits of hypocrites, who are known to lie when they speak, break promises, and betray trust when given to them. These characteristics were highlighted as behaviors to be avoided by faithful Muslims.
