Certain mobile phones from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, Mi and Google brands may not be able to connect to the national emergency numbers: 991, 993, 995 and 998, the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) said in a press release.
Affected phones can connect well with other three digit numbers but get disconnected when emergency numbers are dialled. This was also reported by users overseas when dialling their countries’ emergency numbers.
AITI advised the public using affected phones to add the ‘+’ sign at the end of the third digit of emergency numbers without space. This should allow users to connect to the emergency numbers.
Local mobile phone retailers are encouraged to make this information known to customers.
