His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam recently called on ASEAN parliamentarians to look into food security during the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In a message to the assembly, the monarch said that global food supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions underscore the need for agricultural supply chains.
His Majesty also noted the need for sustainable production systems and technological advancements in the agri-food sector. Meanwhile, His Majesty stated that maintaining unity in the region is important, with challenges requiring a collective and collaborative response.
The monarch stated that AIPA parliamentarians are expected to enhance ASEAN’s efforts in realising these goals and fostering regional cooperation.
His Majesty also emphasised the important partnership between ASEAN and AIPA. The monarch stated that the assembly’s agenda remain relevant to regional and global challenges, and that Brunei Darussalam will continue to provide support, underlining the common goal of enhancing the collective welfare of ASEAN. – Azlan Othman
