Work from anywhere

Bandar Seri Begawan is among the top 100 global destinations for remote work, according to an analysis from the human resource (HR) website Remote.com

The analysis placed the capital at 95th based on worldwide data in eight areas: quality of life, safety, Internet infrastructure, attractiveness, openness, cost of living, inflation and incentives for remote workers.

“As the concept of remote work transitions from a necessity to a lifestyle choice for many, the list has been updated with new factors reflecting this reality, including inflation and the availability of a digital nomad visa, which is now offered by more than 50 countries. “Spain, Portugal, and Canada may be your next travel stops, as Madrid, Madeira, and Toronto respectively have been ranked the top three spots for remote work,” said the HR company.

Only one city in the United States, (Portlane, Maine) made the top 10. The previous report’s top destination, Toronto, holds strong in the third spot in the previous report.

Tokyo replaced Japan’s previous top city (Mishima) all the way at number five. Tokyo has a good mix of crucial factors for remote workers, including attractiveness, safety, and Internet speed.

Japan also recently launched a brand-new digital nomad visa to attract remote workers. Of the top 25 spots, Europe holds 12 spots, North America six and Asia four.

Other Asian cities that made it to the top 100 are Bangkok, Thailand (16th), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (22nd), Seoul, South Korea (55th), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (68th), Beijing, China (72nd) and Singapore (78th).

“The workers of the world are no longer constrained by borders. With a laptop and an Internet connection, professionals can build careers from wherever they choose.

“The ability to travel and explore is not limited to digital nomads – everyone, from big families to solo freelancers, has a place in the new world of work,” said the company.  – Azlan Othman
