‘Whole-of-nation approach must to raise workplace safety and health standards’

The whole-of-nation approach is vital in raising workplace safety and health (WSH) standards in the country, further ensuring that Brunei Darussalam is a safe place to work and live in.

This was highlighted by Director of the Process Safety Division of the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) Haji Ya’akub bin Haji Yusof, as the Chairperson of SHENA’s WSH Committee, during his opening remarks at the Workplace Safety and Health (Workplace Safety and Health Committee), 2014 Regulations workshop yesterday.

Held at the iCentre Auditorium, Kampong Anggerek Desa, the workshop was attended by some 48 representatives from the Ministry of Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and their respective departments.

The workshop’s objectives were to raise awareness of the requirements under the Workplace Safety and Health Order, 2009 and its regulations thereunder, specifically the Workplace Safety and Health (Workplace Safety and Health Committees) Regulations, 2014 (WSH Committees Regulations).

Attendees were also briefed on the functions of the WSH Committee namely in conducting general inspections of the workplace, carrying out investigations following an accident, safety promotion and issuance of workplace safety and health guidelines.
