ANN/THE KOREA HERALD – K-pop girl group aespa is switching gears and giving fans a thrilling new spin on their hit track Whiplash — this time, in English.
SM Entertainment confirmed that the English-language version of Whiplash will make its grand debut this Thursday, just ahead of aespa’s highly anticipated appearance at the Billboard Women in Music 2025 event in Los Angeles, where the foursome is set to be honoured as Group of the Year.
Fans can look forward to seeing the group perform the new version live for the first time during the awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday.
But the surprises don’t stop there. The English Whiplash won’t just be a standalone release — it’ll feature on aespa’s upcoming single album, which is also set to include a pulsing techno house remix by none other than global DJ and producer Steve Aoki.

With Aoki in the mix, expect a dance floor-ready reimagining that amps up the tempo while keeping aespa’s fierce energy front and centre.
Originally released as the title track of the group’s fifth mini album in October 2024, Whiplash stormed the charts with its slick electronic dance beat and bold charisma, debuting at No. 53 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart.
The EP itself marked aespa’s fifth consecutive million-seller — a feat that firmly cemented their place as one of K-pop’s global front-runners.
Adding to their list of milestones, the quartet recently wrapped up their globe-trotting world tour, hitting 41 shows across 28 cities before returning home for a two-night finale in Seoul on March 16.
From New York to Tokyo and everywhere in between, the tour proved the group’s immense international pull — and now, with an English release in their arsenal, aespa looks poised to hit an even broader note.
With Whiplash already delivering a sonic punch in its original form, the English version promises to be a cross-cultural anthem that keeps fans spinning. And with the Billboard spotlight and Steve Aoki’s remix in tow, aespa’s next chapter is revving up fast — and it’s sure to leave fans breathless.
