Well-wishers line up to meet the monarch

Temburong residents sent warm wishes to the monarch and members royal family during the get-toegther ceremony in the district to mark His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni

Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 77th birthday.

Eighty-one-year-old Haji Hamzah bin Jahar from Kampong Sibulu said it was a great honour to be part of the royal celebration.

“It was a delight to be able to meet His Majesty. I have been attending the get-together for the past 23 years, without fail. Today, I am grateful to Allah the Almighty for my good health, which allowed me to meet His Majesty,” said Haji Hamzah.

“I pray for the monarch’s longevity and good health, steadfast in ruling fairly and equitably as the country’s head of state, as well as the well-being of the people,” Haji Hamzah said, who works as a tradesman with the Public Works Department in Temburong and Belait Districts for 26 years.

Meanwhile, retired personnel of the Royal Brunei Police Force Association (POLSARA) Deputy President Haji Johari bin Abdul Rahman said, “Just like in the previous years, 30 of our members from the four districts took part in this year’s get-together ceremony in Temburong.

“His Majesty is a caring monarch and takes care of the welfare of the people.

“We are grateful for the caring attitude of His Majesty.

“We wish His Majesty a happy birthday. We continue to engage in this activity and keep ourselves active by exercising. Some of the members aged over 70 years are still active.

“We also take care of the well-being of other retired personnel by visiting them at hospital, or at home, to offer support.”

Temburong Arabic Preparatory School headmaster Morsidi bin Awang Tuah also wished the monarch a happy birthday and expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for setting up the Arabic school.

This year marks 25th year of its establishment.

“We are thankful for the provision of facilities and hope that secondary and tertiary Arabic schools will be set up in the district in the future”.

He also said, “For the celebration, 57 students took part in flag-waving yesterday, and 15 in field performances.” – Azlan Othman
