The health and welfare of ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam in foreign countries is a top priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), said Minister of Foreign Affairs II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof on the third day of the 18th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday,

The minister responsed to LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon’s query on the welfare of diplomatic staff residing outside the Sultanate, and how they are coping with the Covid-19 situation.

The minister said Brunei’s ambassadors are frontliners of the country and were the first to receive vaccination shots as early as April, 2021.

“Now all of our ambassadors are fully vaccinated and most have received their booster shots,” he added.

The minister said all of the country’s ambassadors and their staff are instructed to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) advised by the Ministry of Health and also practice business continuation plans in the embassy for the well-being of the staff.

Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali also asked how the MFA would handle any death of a Bruneian due to COVID-19 outside the country, which the minister replied saying the ministry will swiftly facilitate the repatriation of the body.
