The Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) recently completed the construction of its 20th mosque in a poor neighbourhood in Bangladesh.
MKM has an active mosque building programme in Bangladesh since 2015. The mosques were initially built in refugee camps in Bangladesh and lately in poor, remote villages.
The cost to build a mosque varies depending on where it is built, the material used and the size; from BND5,000 to BND30,000. All the mosques are solar powered.
MKM President Mohamed Yusof bin Shaik Abdul Halim said, “The mosques require ablution places that draw from the underground artesian water, so we run separate programmes to built ablution places for existing mosques.
“Currently we are building ablution places for five mosques at remote villages in Bangladesh.”
Some mosques are built as waqaf for donors and their deceased parents whilst others are built from small donations collected.
MKM is a registered charitable society and is solely funded by public donations. – Fadley Faisal
