Two weightlifters from the Brunei Darussalam National Weightlifting Association bagged medals in their respective category in the Egat King’s Cup and Egat Princess’ Cup Weightlifting Championship at Mueang District, Phangnga province, Thailand.
Nina Juna competing in women’s U64 kilogramme (kg) completed 81kg in the snatch and 105kg for clean and jerk event. She won silver medal in both events and silver medal in the overall result.
Meanwhile Muhammad Kamit brought home bronze medal in the U81kg category in the snatch event for 122kg. He was forced to give up in the clean and jerk event after suffering body cramped due to dehydration from the heatwave.
He said that it was a very good experience especially with help from the Royal Thai Navy’s weightlifters.
Nina Juna said that she is delighted to achieve her goal of obtaining medals in her first overseas competition. Meanwhile, Syuhaidah Ahman competed in the U49kg category managed to lift 69kg in the clean and jerk event but failed in the snatch event.
In the U59kg category, Amal Matahir managed to lift 48kg in the snatch event and 69kg in the clean and jerk event, with a total of 117kg.
