Wei Chong-Kai Wun defeat seniors to reach Indonesia Masters final

ANN/THE STAR – Men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong – Tee Kai Wun turned Istora Senayan into a happy hunting ground by defeating senior teammates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to secure a spot in the Indonesia Masters final.

The world No 13 duo delivered an impressive performance, claiming a 21-18, 21-15 victory over the world No 5 pair in Jakarta yesterday. This marks Wei Chong-Kai Wun’s second win over the 2022 world champions in their last four encounters.

They also made it to the final in Istora last year June but lost to China’s world No 3 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang in the Indonesian Open.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun will face home favourites and world No 4 Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto in the title match today. They have never beaten the local heroes, having lost to them in all the last four meetings.

“Before the match, we just prepared ourselves well because Aaron-Wooi Yik are our seniors.

“We did not have much pressure, so we were able to play better,” Wei Chong told the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“They were fast, so we had to increase our tempo and were aggressive to win.” – R Kirubashini
