    Weather warning issued as rain continues

    Following the occasional heavy and gusty rain yesterday, many areas in the country experienced floods and flash floods, especially in the Tutong and Belait districts, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) said in a statement.

    National Automatic Weather Stations in Kuala Belait and Sungai Liang recorded total rainfall of 424 millimetres (mm) and 230.8mm while the National Automatic Weather Station in Benutan recorded a total rainfall of 108.2mm.

    However, the amount of rainfall recorded at the Brunei International Airport Observation Station, National Automatic Weather Station Anggerek Desa and Bandar Seri Begawan was lower, recording 41.7mm, 70.8mm and 28.2mm. According to the tide data from the Survey Department, Muara Port experienced a tide height of 2.4 metres (m) with a high tide time of 9pm-11pm; Brunei river with 2.7m and a high tide time of 10pm to midnight; Temburong River with 2.4m and a high tide time at 11pm; Tutong River with 1.7m and a high tide time of 9pm-10pm; and Belait River with 1.8m and a high tide time of 9pm-11pm.

    The four districts experienced the tides yesterday and the situation is expected to continue until the end of the month.

    Weather conditions are forecast to be active until tomorrow with occasional heavy and thundery showers expected, affecting many coastal and sea areas in the morning and at night; as well as the inland areas in the afternoon.

    The wind speed of up to 50 kilometres per hour in or near showers is also expected.

    Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally at moderate to rough state between 1.0-3.0m.

    The public is advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecast active weather condition.

    There is a risk of flash floods, landslide and fallen trees. Roofs flying off are also possible during heavy showers.

    Sea conditions are dangerous to all small boat operations, sea recreational activities and sports.
