Warm welcome for Their Majesties

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam began their state visit to Malaysia yesterday.

Accompanying Their Majesties was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Their Majesties were welcomed on arrival at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the 16th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah and Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj; and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim and wife Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail.

The ceremony began with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeding to the special dais to receive the salute of honour accompanied by the national anthems of Brunei and Malaysia and a 21-gun salute. The ceremony continued with the inspection of the guard of honour mounted by members of the Royal Malay Regiment.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia proceeded together to Istana Negara’s courtyard to plant a simpor tree (dillenia suffroticosa).

The tree planting ceremony was to commemorate His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s state visit, which reflects the deep family ties long enjoyed between both countries.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were then introduced to the Malaysian dignitaries and foreign envoys in Malaysia, followed by the introduction of members of the Brunei delegation to His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri attended a courtesy call with His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong in which the two leaders among other matters discussed the close and friendly relations and excellent bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were presented with a new orchid hybrid, registered as ‘Papilionanda Queen Saleha’, on the occasion of the state visit.

After the courtesy call, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri attended a state luncheon at the Istana Negara hosted by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

At the state luncheon, a cultural performance was held to celebrate the state visit.

Before leaving Istana Negara, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were bade farewell by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri also attended a dinner at Petronas Twin Towers hosted by Dato’ Seri Anwar and Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah.

At the dinner, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri enjoyed the night view of Kuala Lumpur.
