Former students of the Jalan Muara Sixth Form Centre (PTE) – Class of 1975-1978 – organised a walkathon to raise money for the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023 yesterday.
Former minister of communications Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, as co-patron of ad-hoc committee of Former PTE Jalan Muara Students 1975-1978, officiated the fundraising event.
Some 150 participants, comprising alumni of PTE Jalan Muara, Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College, PTE Berakas, PTE Meragang, PTE Sengkurong, PTE Tutong, PTE Belait and Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School, as well as public members, took part in the event at Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Connects in the capital.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa led the 1.2-kilometre walkathon around Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, passing Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, and later handed over a BND8,060 in donation to Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, who received it on behalf of the humanitarian fund.
The donation comprises BND6,194 in online transfers from the Jalan Muara PTE alumni and BND1,866 raised from the walkathon.
Co-secretary of the walkathon’s organising committee Haji Jaafar bin Haji Ibrahim said the event was a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people as well as to support the government’s aspirations for a healthier community through physical activities. – James Kon
