Over 360 kilogrammes of marine debris were cleared from Pantai Jerudong on Sunday as volunteers from the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) completed a beach cleaning campaign.

Around 50 participants from BSP’s workforce, along with their families, spent the day removing various rubbish washed up along the shoreline. The Orang Kitani, Ocean Kitani cleanup event was organised by BSP and facilitated by OCean Week Brunei and Poni Adventures.

Other activities during the event include a plastic debris sculpture competition, where participants used collected plastic debris to craft depictions of a stingray, a turtle, and a life raft.

A mini-exhibition on marine conservation was also held, highlighting important work local non-governmental organisations are conducting to promote sustainability and protect the marine environment.

A talk on the challenges of marine plastic debries and the positive benefits of upcycling plastic waste was also conducted by Ocean Week Brunei. – Adib Noor
