Visiting military band awes audience with Japanese cultural hits

The brass band from the visiting Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) training squadron put on a cultural showcase that awed the audience at the Times Square Shopping Centre on Saturday.

The band played a number of popular songs from Japan, including music from Pokémon and Super Mario Bros, the classic Ue wo muite arukou, Flame (Homura) from the anime Demon Slayer and Blue Bird from the Naruto series. The band also played other hits such as You Raise Me Up and We are the World, and the local favourite Rasa Sayang.

The band was part of a cultural showcase hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam. Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah was the guest of honour.

Other events during the showcase included a wadaiko performance and a kendo demonstration.
