Visiting delegation eyes potential in Brunei-Azerbaijan education cooperation

The Azerbaijan delegation visiting Brunei said they received positive feedback from universities in Brunei on education cooperation.

“Our delegation also proposed a memorandum of understanding and presented our drafted version,” said the Consul of the Azerbaijan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Dr Elsevar Salmanov.

“We want to speed up relations and economic ties with Brunei,” said Dr Elsevar stressing that Azerbaijan has a strong attachment to the Organization Islamic Conference (OIC) which includes Brunei.

Dr Elsevar also added that Azerbaijan could export its agricultural industry products and renewable energy resources to Brunei as Azerbaijan is an expert in the defence industry.

Dr Elsevar was accompanied by a five-member delegation, the first of its kind in the country.

They comprised Deputy Chairman of its State Committee on Religious Associations Gunduz Ismayilov, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology Agil Shirinov, Assistant to Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology Emin Orujov, Head of Department of the Small and Medium Business (SMB) Development Agency Azerbaijan Anar Yusufzade, and Senior Specialist in Foreign Relations of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology Shahin Alasgarov.

During their four-day stay in the Sultanate, the delegation had a working lunch with officials at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, paid a courtesy call to Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, met officials from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, had a courtesy call with the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Junedand also met with members of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam.
