Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative Community for Brunei, is organising a Digital PopUp Market Thrift Store beginning yesterday, aimed to bring awareness to the importance of ethical fashion and encourage eco-friendly habits to adapt when consuming fashion.
The virtual thrift pop-up is part of the sustainable nation campaign, an #SME360 initiative with BIBD and Community for Brunei featuring a whole-of-nation approach to create small but impactful actions to fight the climate change crisis and move toward a circular economy.
Customers will have the opportunity to buy a great selection of pre-loved fashion available on the Community for Brunei website in a Pop-Up Digital Market Flash Sale, in partnership with campaign partner Thryffy, an app that aims to create a world without textile waste, and a home for the fashion community to discover style and creativity while striving toward a sustainable change.
BIBD Chief Marketing Officer Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar said, “The end goal of the sustainable nation campaign is to move towards a circular economy and to encourage a culture of reducing, reusing and recycling. Through this virtual thrift pop-up, we hope to encourage local consumers to think about the impact of fast fashion on the environment and mitigating this by finding ways to integrate eco-friendly habits into their daily lives whether that is by reusing, upcycling or buying pre-loved, to extend the fashion product life that would otherwise go into a landfill.”
Meanwhile, Thryffy co-founder Adam Razak said, “Our hope is to inspire a new generation of consumers to think secondhand first.”
Sixteen local thrift vendors are taking part in the virtual pop-up, including Driptrift; Ellie Closet Co; Kastah Thrift; llychce.bn; Paper Petals BN; Preloved.nest; Thriefters; Thrift with Nin (Nin’s Stash); winaxsarah; Little Things Spree; Rotate; La Vida; Loved by Na; Masks N More; Amirah’s Fantasy; and Rizki Biskita.
The public can browse the selection of pre-loved fashion items on the Community for Brunei website.
