Villagers vote for new heads

Haji Hamidi bin Haji Abdul Wahid, 36, received 227 votes for and four against while two votes were rejected as they were damaged during the village head election for RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan, Area 5 last week.

Meanwhile, the candidate for Kampong Sungai Akar Area 1 Haji Zailani bin Haji Abdul Malik, 58, obtained 191 votes. Three votes were against and two were damaged.

Haji Hamidi has been a resident of the village for 26 years and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature (Brunei studies) and served at Radio Television Brunei (RTB). Haji Zailani, a resident of the village for 21 years obtained a postgraduate diploma in computing from Essex University, United Kingdom in 1992.

He is a retired senior manager at the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).

The voting and the election for the two village heads in the Brunei-Muara District were held simultaneously at two locations.

The voting of the candidate in Kampong Sungai Akar Area 1, Mukim Berakas ‘B’ was held at the Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Sungai Akar, while for RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan, Area 5, Mukim Berakas took place at the Lambak Kanan 2 Community Hall.

Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim oversaw the voting at Lambak Kanan 2 Community Hall while Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad witnessed the voting at Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque.

The elections were carried out in-person and through the e-Undi PMKK app.

The results will be presented to the Board of Appointment, Discipline and Procedures for the Mukim Penghulu and Village Head at the Ministry of Home Affairs for the selection process.
