An end-of-year festival is being held by the Kampong Belimbing Village Consultative Council (MPK) at Gerai Mufakat Tasik Sarubing Recreational Park until December 31.
The festival, which began yesterday, is a platform for vendors from the local area to promote their products and farm produce.
Legislative Council member Haji Daud bin Jihan, as the Village Head of Kampong Belimbing, officiated the start of the festival.
The festival features local products from pastries to handicrafts, fruits and fish.
One of the vendor, Haji Abdul Rahim bin Haji Bini said he is promoting his red tilapia, which he began breeding six months ago, with the the spawn sourced from fish farmers in Kampong Pangkalan Sibabau and Labi.
He said he started fish farming as a hobby, which quickly grew into a business after seeing that the fish had commercial value. He said there are 35 fish ponds rearing tilapia, and hoped he can expand production to meet demand.
Meanwhile, two siblings, Noriah Jarudin, 72, and Hajah Hasnah Jarudin, 84, are selling colourful handwoven baskets made from plastic strips. They said making baskets is a passion of theirs, and take orders for various occassions. Once, they made around 300 baskets for an order, they said.
