HANOI (XINHUA) – Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports could reach a record high of USD7 billion this year given the context that the country has continuously reported double-digit export growth of those products, Vietnam News Agency reported yesterday.
The Southeast Asian country earned USD3.83 billion from exporting fruits and vegetables in the first seven months of this year, up 24.3 per cent year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.
Among Vietnam’s 10 biggest fruit and vegetable importers, nine markets recorded double-digit growth during the cited period.
Association’s general secretary Dang Phuc Nguyen said the export values of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables tend to increase. In addition to upholding its reputation in China, a traditional market, Vietnam has expanded exports to Northeast Asian countries.
Northeast Asia is a strategic market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
Export businesses not only benefit from tariffs but also can reduce transportation and logistics costs compared to markets such as the European Union and the United States, Nguyen said.
In the Northeast Asian region, China is Vietnam’s largest fruit and vegetable export market with 12 products.
Vietnam’s Plant Protection Department is opening the market for citrus fruits, medicinal plants and frozen durian to China.
