A Vietnamese national was ordered to settle a BND1,000 fine yesterday after she pleaded guilty to prostitution in the Magistrate’s Court.
Luong Thi Thanh Tuyet would have to serve a month’s jail in default of payment of the fine.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor ‘Adliatul Hidayah binti Haji Mohd Zaidi revealed in court that the 30-year-old defendant was arrested during a raid by personnel from the Gambling Suppression and Anti-Vice Unit, Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) at a hotel room in Berakas.
It was in the afternoon of June 20 when they barged into the room and found the defendant with a man.
It was later confirmed that the man was a customer whom the defendant had offered her services for BND100.
RBPF also found evidence linked to prostitution services along with cash.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman heard that the defendant arrived in Brunei on a social visit pass on June 14 and had arranged for her services with another country fellow as an intermediary. – Fadley Faisal
