Being vaccinated does not mean a person is immune to COVID-19, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday.
“Vaccines are meant to protect you, and are only able to decrease the chances of infection and reduce symptoms caused by the virus,” said the minister.
“If you are fully vaccinated you have a 50-per-cent chance of not getting infected. And if you have a booster, it is increased to a 90 -per-cent chance of not catching the virus. That is still not a 100 -per-cent guarantee,” he said.
The minister said getting vaccinated plays a major role in protecting oneself, but “what is more important is to be responsible and strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)”.
He also said, ”And as a Muslim country, we should always pray for protection.”
