The 18th ASEAN Working Group on Halal Food (18th AWGHF), chaired by Indonesia, was held virtually yesterday, joined by senior officers from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Brunei Darussalam Food Authority at Dahlia Room of the Syari’ah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The Brunei delegation was led by Syariah Affairs Department Halal Food Control Division Head Ahmad Haziq bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
The meeting aimed to facilitate uniformity in halal standards across ASEAN amid the increasing demand for credible halal products and services.
The meeting also saw discussions on the progress of action plans to increase cooperation among ASEAN member countries with a key focus on halal food guidelines for the region; proposal to set up a halal certification and accreditation centre for ASEAN countries; and the registration and compilation work for the ASEAN halal food website.
