The upgrade of roads in Mukim Amo and Mukim Bokok is in the National Development Plan (RKN), said the Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid at yesterday’s 19th LegCo session.

Yesterday, LegCo member Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir called for the roads for the two mukims to be upgraded.

In response, the minister said plans to upgrade the roads in the those areas in the RKN, along with other upgrade plans for roads in the country. This included the erection of signboards in those areas, added the minister.

Meanwhile, the minister also addressed the LegCo member’s concern on asphalt roads, noting that the minimum requirement for an asphalt road to be built in a residential area is the presence of five houses per simpang.

He noted the building of asphalt roads within a residential area might take some time due to a large queue in the number of applications and the budget.

“At this time there are over 200 applications for the building of such roads in residential areas,” the minister explained.

Meanwhile, in response to the LegCo member’s concern over a shortage of gravel, the minister replied that sites in the Temburong District have been identified for gravel, and the regulations have been updated for the quarrying of gravel to preserve flora, fauna and the environment.
