Unsettled weather condition is expected in the coming days due to the combination of a low-pressure system over South China Sea with the local wind effect leading to more moist atmospheric condition, enhancing the development of rain clouds, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) said in a statement yesterday.
Active weather condition is forecasted starting today until Sunday with occasional heavy thundershowers affecting a number of areas of the country. Wind gust may reach up to 45 kilometres per hour during or near heavy thundershowers.
Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally slight, at below one metre.
The Sultanate has entered the inter-monsoon period which is the transition period after the southwest monsoon and before entering the northeast monsoon. The inter-monsoon period is expected to last until the end of November. During the period, local wind effects play an important role in governing daily weather.
The public is advised to take precautions with respect to the forecast active weather condition. There is a high risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and high tide. The risk of landslides and fallen trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.
Road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by BDMD, and to take action to ensure safety, said the agency.
