Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held a ceremony yesterday to honour and present donations to staff members embarking on the haj pilgrimage this year, coinciding with the university’s weekly ‘Quranic Journey’ programme.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle presented the donations to 13 academic and administrative staff members, including five international staff members.

The support reflects the university’s commitment to its staff’s well-being and their spiritual growth.

Meanwhile, the ongoing ‘Quranic Journey’ programme, launched in January 2023 and held every Friday morning, consists of talaqqi Al-Quran recitation practice sessions for students, the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and tadabbur Al-Quran sessions by prominent speakers, which includes the exploration of the meaning, purpose and rulings derived from surah in Al-Quran. The programme aims to foster a deeper appreciation for Al-Quran among UBD staff and students and aligns with the Sultanate’s national aspiration to become a Zikir Nation.

The sessions are not only open to UBD members, but is also livestreamed on the university’s Instagram @ubdbuzz for the public. – Lyna Mohamad
