University students join hands with MASA to spread awareness

Curtin University Malaysia’s (Curtin Malaysia) final year public relations students, enrolled in a unit on campaign planning, collaborated with the Miri Ability Service Association (MASA) to develop an awareness campaign to promote the services of non-profit organisations in Miri, according to a press release.

MASA President Boon Foo Ping and Assistant secretary/administrator Elaine Teo Ee Leng joined the students on campus to launch the campaign. It is carried according to a 12-month strategic communications plan developed by the students.

Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business of the Department of Management, Marketing and Digital Business Head Dr Samuel Adeyinka-Ojo said the project is an excellent opportunity for the students to gain practical experience and apply theories learnt in their unit to a real-life scenario.

Dr Adeyinka-Ojo shared the students and leaders of MASA spent four months developing the campaign.

“They developed a comprehensive campaign plan with detailed strategies and tactics to enhance MASA’s profile in the local community, including its online presence,” said Dr Adeyinka-Ojo.

Student Azizah Salsabila Ande shared that collaborating with MASA on the project was insightful and the experience of developing and executing a campaign plan was important to the students’ learning.

“We were able to apply what we have learnt and hone our creativity, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills,” Azizah said.
