University launches religious programme

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) introduced a Quranic Journey Programme to be held every Friday to further enhance the understanding and literacy of Al-Quran among Muslim students.

The programme is addition to the regular teaching and learning sessions with the hope that it will bring blessings from Allah the Almighty to UBD to strive for a purposeful and blessed life guided by the values of Malay Islamic Monarchy and in alignment with UBD’s motto ‘Towards Human Excellence’.

UBD Vice Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle introduced the programme during his address as the guest of honour at the university’s opening of the Freshers Week yesterday. He said “Entering University is not just about acquiring knowledge or earning a degree; it is an opportunity for personal growth, discovery and self realisation. We firmly believe that each one of you possesses unique talents, passions and dreams, waiting to be nurtured and unleashed.

“Our mission is not just to impart knowledge but to ignite the flame of curiosity, creativity and critical thinking within you.”

He added, “Throughout your academic journey, we will encourage you to challenge your assumptions, engage in meaningful discussions and explore various subjects and perspectives.

“With UBD’s notion of ‘Futuring Together’, we will provide you with a supportive environment that encourages you to take risks, to fail and learn from it and to ultimately discover what truly drives you.”

Dr Hazri also said, “Our commitment to creating future proof students goes beyond preparing you for the job market.

“While we strive to equip you with the skills and knowledge to excel in your chosen fields, we also emphasise the development of qualities like adaptability, resilience, grit, empathy and leadership.”

He urged the new students to get involved with entrepreneurship education and experience as early as the first year.

“You will have the unique opportunity to explore your new ideas, tests the ideas and turn the concepts into tangible ventures.

“The university will continue to provide a supportive environment for you to get access to mentorship, resources and networking opportunities that are crucial for budding entrepreneurs,” he said. – James Kon
