Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society (HTSS) of the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (PPHT), organised a virtual forum, to discuss issues and challenges in maintaining the halal industry, which has been growing and gaining community attention.
The forum was held in conjunction with the Day of Action campaign and the International Volunteer Day celebration, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The forum was an effort by the HTSS in collaboration with the Ikatan Siswa Siswi Akademi Halal (ISWAH) from the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Samarahan Campus in Sarawak.
The forum enabled students to study current issues related to the sustainability of the halal industry from various perspectives and apply the concept of ‘quality of education’ found in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
UNISSA PPHT Director Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim attended as the guest of honour.
Achieving a sustainable future involves a collective effort from individuals, communities, businesses and governments, she said.
“I believe with the forum initiative, our younger generation will have the opportunity to pitch their creative and innovative ideas towards these goals, sharing their opinions on innovations and commitment to building and managing the halal industry in a more sustainable way in the future.
“I am confident that the programme will provide a platform for students to gain knowledge and encourage them to become critical thinkers. Aside from that, I believe the event will promote a study and research environment among panellists to generate innovative and creative ideas that align with the country’s aspirations of developing the halal industry and maslahah for the ummah,” she added.
