Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) was among the participants of the 9th Higher Education Expo 2024 organised by the Ministry of Education in Jerudong last weekend.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, as Acting Minister of Education, officiated the expo and visited UTB’s pavilion.
The minister was welcomed by UTB Vice Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, university officials, staff and students.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin launched the new UTB corporate video and UTB Alumni Office as well as witnessed an exchange of memorandum of understanding between the university and Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN).
UTB will join a webinar today from 9.50am to 10.20am with Faculty of Engineering’s Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Programme Leader Dr Mohammad Hazwan bin Azri conducting a session on ‘Introducing BSc (Hons) in Energy Engineering’.
The university is set to host UTB Open Day 2024 tomorrow and February 7.
Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) also joined the education expo. Representatives from eight faculties and two centres were available to help prospective students learn about courses, campus life and UNISSA’s learning environment. Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) was also at the expo with an array of academic programmes including Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master’s Degree in Religious Education and post-graduate diploma.
The university offers Master’s Degree programmes covering Islamic philosophy and thought, Islamic finance, early childhood education, Islamic guidance and counselling, multimedia Islamic education, entrepreneurship in Islamic education and studying al-Quran and al-Sunnah.
Also among the higher education expo attendees was United States (US) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam’s Public Affairs Officer Katherine Ntiamoah.
She said the expo is a platform to reach out to Bruneian students about community colleges, state and private universities in the US looking for high-achieving students.
Ntiamoah said there were 41 Bruneian students, as of 2023, pursuing studies in the US in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as artificial intelligence (AI).
Other than reaching out to Bruneian students, expo visitors also got to know more about other opportunities including scholarships. – Rokiah Mahmud
