Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through its Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) and Student Affairs Division (HEP), spearheaded a clean-up campaign at Kampong Ayer on Sunday.
The event, themed “Sayangi Warisan Kita: Kempen Kebersihan Kampong Ayer,” took place in Kampong Setia B as part of the university’s 14th Mahrajan Hafl al-Takharruj celebrations.
The campaign saw active participation from four UNISSA lecturers and 50 students, working hand-in-hand with members of the Kampong Setia B Village Consultative Council (MPK). The initiative is aligned with this year’s Mahrajan theme, “Maqasid Syariah as the Core of Sustainable Development Goals.”
The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in Kampong Ayer and the surrounding Brunei River. Participants were educated on how water pollution can have detrimental effects on daily life and the environment. The campaign also emphasised the need for proper waste management practices to reduce pollutants entering the river, thereby fostering a sense of responsibility among the community.
By keeping Kampong Ayer and the Brunei River clean and attractive, the program hopes to boost the area’s appeal as a tourist destination, which in turn could bring economic benefits to the local community. – FADLEY FAISAL
