UNISSA faculty joins ASEAN network on sustainable food system

The Faculty of Agriculture at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) officially joined the ASEAN University Network for A Sustainable Food System.

The agreement was signed in a letter of intent (LOI) on April 18 with 11 collaborating parties from ASEAN universities at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand.

They are UNISSA for Brunei Darussalam; Bogor Institute of Agriculture University (IPB) for Indonesia; National University of Laos (NUOL) for Laos; Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for Malaysia; Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) for Myanmar; University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) for Philippines; Chiang Mai University (CMU), Kasetsart University (KU) and Mahidol University (MU) for Thailand; Can Tho University (CTU) and Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) for Vietnam.

UNISSA was represented by Faculty of Agriculture Dean Associate Professor Dr Hajah Rose binti Abdullah at the ceremony.

The LOI aims to kickstart long-term academic initiatives for regional cooperation in Southeast Asia for teaching, research, capacity building and knowledge sharing to promote sustainable food systems and academic excellence in agricultural, resource, environmental, agricultural and food policies, applied economics, agriculture and food systems in the region.

The signing ceremony was part of a two-day symposium held both online and physically from April 18-19, with ASEAN sustainable food systems as the theme.

“The symposium also served as an important platform for graduates and young researchers from the hosting organisations to share their research findings and innovations towards achieving sustainable food systems in the ASEAN region,” it said in a statement. – Rokiah Mahmud
