UNISSA deepens ties with Egyptian university

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) deepened ties with Al-Azhar As-Sharif University after a top-level delegation paid a working visit to the Egyptian institution in Cairo recently.

UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal made a courtesy call on Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar University and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Mosque Dr Ahmad At-Tayyib, where he expressed appreciation for the contributions and close cooperation with Al-Azhar University towards the progress and development of Islamic teachings in Brunei Darussalam.

The two parties held discussions on academic cooperation and for academics from Al-Azhar university in the field of aqidah, fiqh and qira’at to be loaned to UNISSA to meet academic needs.

Meanwhile, Dr Ahmad At-Tayyib suggested that academic cooperation between the two universities need to be widened not only in the field of Islamic studies but also others disciplines, such as science, technology, medicine and agriculture.

Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Egypt Pengiran Ahmad Munir @ Pengiran Abdul Aziim bin Pengiran Haji Nordin and Acting Assistant Rector (International and Service) of UNISSA, Dr Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili were also present.

While in Cairo, Dr Haji Norarfan met with Ra’es of Al-Azhar University Professor Dr Muhammad Hussein Mahrasawi and made working visits to the International Alumni of Al-Azhar University Association, World Rabitah Islamic Universities and Islamic Majma Buhuth.

He also met with Bruneian students in Egypt while visiting the residences at Hayyu Sadis, Madinat Nasr.
