Adib Noor

The first day of the preliminary round of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth for 1443 Hijrah was held at the Silaturahim Hall of the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Twenty youth participated in the first day of the competition organised by the Youth and Sports Department (JBS) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) from 8.30am to 5pm.

The event was livestreamed by JBS. The organisers said the contest is an annual project which started in the 1980s.

The National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth is aimed at showcasing the participants’ potential, particularly in Tarannum. It has produced Qari and Qariah of high calibre who have competed at higher levels of the competition.

A total of 84 youth comprising 53 Qari and 31 Qariah will compete in the competition’s three-day preliminary round with the last day set to take place on May 14.
