An unauthorised heavy vehicle workshop operating in Kampong Katok, Mukim Gadong, has been ordered to cease operations for violating Section 23 (2) of the Town and Country Planning Act, Chapter 248, which prohibits conducting activities without Planning Permission.
The workshop, located on residential land within a designated residential zone, was deemed unsuitable for industrial purposes. Such operations in residential areas disrupt community life through noise pollution, increased traffic congestion, and safety risks. Additionally, they place undue strain on local infrastructure, with roads not designed to accommodate heavy vehicles suffering damage. The environmental and aesthetic impacts further highlight the incompatibility of industrial activities in residential settings.
Following routine inspections, the landowner complied with the directive issued by the Planning Authority, ceasing operations and restoring the area to its intended residential use. The workshop has since relocated to an industrial zone, aligning with planning regulations and minimising disruptions to the community. The public is reminded to adhere to planning laws, particularly Section 23 of the Town and Country Planning Act. The law prohibits any development, subdivision, or work within conservation areas without prior permission from the Planning Authority. Violations are punishable by fines of up to BND200,000 and an additional fine of BND10,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
For complaints or planning advice, the public may contact the Department of Town and Country Planning hotline at 8200 222.
