Unauthorised storage yard shuts down after inspection

An unauthorised storage yard in Kampong Kilanas has been cleared out after authorities carried out inspections in the area recently.

The Department of Town and Country Planning ordered the landowner to discontinue “illegal storage activities”, demolish extensions that were built without permission and to clean up the area.

The department said the landowner had complied, adding that the residential land that was used was unsuitable for industrial storage purposes. The extensions built without permission were used as storage of building materials that were unorganised and hazardous.

The department reminds the public to comply with the planning laws, in particular Section 23 of the Town and Country Planning Order, which provides that no person shall carry out the development, subdivision or consolidation of any land or carry out any work in a conservation area without permission.

For complaints and planning advice, the public can contact the department hotline at 8200222.
