Fifteen food stalls in Mukim Berakas and Mukim Sengkurong were issued notices by the Planning Authority for violating the Town and Country Planning laws by setting up stalls on land designated for car parks.
The stall operators were given two days to dismantle their structures. The failure to comply may result in a compound fine under Section 58 of the Town and Country Planning Act.
The unauthorised use of parking areas has raised safety and convenience concerns, including a shortage of parking spaces, leading to illegal parking and increased pedestrian movement across roads from multiple directions.
The presence of stalls has also contributed to traffic congestion, disrupting vehicle flow and inconveniencing road users and shoppers.
The Planning Authority emphasised that such business activities should be conducted in designated areas or buildings equipped to accommodate large crowds and traffic, with proper infrastructure and utilities to prevent unauthorised electrical and water connections that may pose safety and health risks.
