Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is creating an artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem to enhance student experiential learning by integrating AI into educational framework.
UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle said this during an address welcoming 941 new students for the August intake.
“This involves, upskilling the UBD staff on effective AI tool utilisation, emphasising ethical considerations in AI application, and raising awareness among students on the balanced use of AI,” he said.
He added that UBD is dedicated to future-proofing careers by equipping students with essential skills, including enhancing soft skills through leadership and student affairs programmes, facilitating networking opportunities via internships and industry-linked programmes, nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation through continuous learning and adaptability, and promoting cultural and global awareness through international mobility programmes in collaboration with ASEAN and global partners.
Dr Hazri said, “Students are the heart and soul of the university, making it imperative for us to prioritise your happiness and well-being.
“Hence, UBD remains committed to nurturing the next wave of global leaders by prioritising student well-being, resilience and leadership development.
“We will continue to strengthen support networks and provide effective counselling to enhance student well-being, mental health and resilience.”
To ensure success, he iterated that “students need to be open-minded, high spirited, focused, consistent by studying diligently and having support”.
Meanwhile, UBD’s Dean of Students Dr Mursidi bin Haji Ali said, “Transitioning to the university way of life, or navigating through your academic years, can be demanding and stressful.
“The issue of mental health among university students is real. If you find the course difficult, if you run into problems, make sure you seek proper help as soon as possible.
“Part of being an adult learner is to care yourself and to recognise when you need support from others.”
He added, “The university provides a wide range of resources and support services designed to help you.
“You may talk to your friends, student representative, student council, cohort coordinator, your lecturer, programme leader, faculty members or our religious officer.
“Remember, you are not alone, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weaknesses.” – James Kon
