UBD teams up with ERIA on technology, digital innovation

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) recently, marking a significant step forward in fostering digital innovation and sustainable economic growth in ASEAN and East Asia.

Signing on behalf of UBD was its Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle while on behalf of ERIA was its chief operating officer (COO) Koji Hachiyama.

Under the MoU, the two parties will collaborate through the ERIA Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Centre (E-DISC), an open innovation platform inaugurated by ERIA in August 2023. The partnership will focus on technology and digital innovation, dissemination of research outcomes, human resource development, co-sponsorship and co-hosting of events and flexible project-based cooperation. Dr Hazri said UBD has always prioritised collaboration and innovation in driving progress and development. The signing marks a significant milestone in their journey towards fostering digital innovation and sustainable economic growth.

He added, “Through the MoU with ERIA, specifically through the newly-established E-DISC, it is a testament to our shared vision.

“The collaboration will serve as a platform for open innovation, knowledge sharing and synergistic partnerships among academia, businesses, start-ups and policymakers.”

Meanwhile ERIA COO said, “We are excited to partner with UBD, a leading institution committed to innovation and sustainability. Together, we will drive forward research and initiatives that will benefit not only Brunei Darussalam but the entire ASEAN and East Asia region.” – James Kon
