Local Malay language advocate Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah was named Language Ambassador 2023 during the Malay Language Month Celebration 2023 yesterday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad presented the award to Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim.
Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim is a professor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and is also Head I for Angkatan Sasterawan and Sasterawani Brunei Darussalam.
He is an acting local literature activist known for his creative and non-creative writing skills.
Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim said he was grateful on the recognition for his contribution to the field of language.
He said, “I hope to continue to promote and empower Malay language through the writing and publication of academic and creative work as well as hosting literature activities with the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP).”
As the Language Ambassador, he is expected to play a vital role in promoting the Malay language together with DBP by cooperating with the department and participating in activities related to language, poetry and culture as well as preserving, empowering and expanding Malay language and its importance.
Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim will also help promote the language through his speeches and his way of life. – James Kon
