UBD fetes local academics with lecture series

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) recently held its first Professorial Lecture to honour the faculty’s local professors as well as to celebrate their achievements and academic milestones.

Each lecture aimed to present an overview of the professors’ academic contributions and to introduce the breadth and quality of their work to a wider audience.

The first professorial lecture was a talk by Professor Dr Haji Awang Asbol bin Haji Mail who is with the History and International Studies programme at the FASS.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle attended, along with assistant vice chancellors, principal officers, staff, students and guests from the Brunei History Centre, the Language and Literature Bureau, and the Ministry of Education.

Professor Dr Haji Awang Asbol’s talk on Sungai Kerajaan, Kuripan dan Tulin, Pentadbiran Wilayah Kesultanan Brunei: Kelahiran dan Kesinambungan touched on Brunei’s history and the administration of the Sultanate during the late 18th Century.

Invited guests were also given a tour of an exhibition showcasing Professor Dr Haji Awang Asbol’s publications and work achievements, on display at the foyer of the ProChancellor Arts Centre.

The professor specialises in Brunei history, Malay Islamic Monarchy and Malay civilisation.

He teaches at the FASS and the Academy of Brunei Studies.
