Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and China’s Tsinghua University inked a student exchange agreement at a signing ceremony at UBD yesterday.
UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle and Tsinghua University President Professor Wang Xiqin signed on behalf of their institutions.
Dr Hazri said UBD plans to send its Discovery Year students for study abroad and internship programmes at Tsinghua University. The Discovery Year programme allows undergraduates a year engaged in experiential learning activities, and then return to UBD to complete their final year of their bachelor’s degree.
“Reciprocally, UBD will receive Tsinghua University students to Semester Exchange Programme and Global Discovery short-term programme (GDP) including the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School and GDP Discover Brunei Course,” said the UBD vice-chancellor.
Meanwhile, Dr Hazri said there are many opportunities for academics and researchers from the two institutions to collaborate.
He said discussions have begun with Tsinghua University’s Tsinghua’s School for Journalism and Communication and hopes a faculty memorandum of understanding can be signed between the school and UBD’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
He said, “We share common goals, aspirations, and an immense potential to unlock opportunities for professional growth. This collaboration is not only vital for institutional advancement but also enables us to strengthen ties for Asian universities.
“Together, we can shape a brighter future for our students, faculty and international communities.”
