Two youth representing Brunei Darussalam in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth left the Sultanate yesterday to Labuan Bajo, Nusa Tenggara Region of East Indonesia.
The delegation comprised Special Duties Office Grade II at Pejabat Wawasan Brunei at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Muhammad Zainul Akhyaar bin Amer Hairunuddin and a student from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Siti Rafhanah binti Nor Hasnul.
Muhammad Zainul Akhyaar said that they will present recommendations prepared by participants during the ASEAN Youth Dialogue (AYD) last April.
He added that, the suggestions among others relate to digital transformations in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Southeast Asia.
He felt honoured to become the voice for youth to leaders of countries and governments.
Siti Rafhanah expressed gratitude on being selected to represent the country at the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth.
She added they will have the opportunity during the interface session to discuss and sit with ASEAN leaders in which they will present what they have done so far with the policies and recommendations regarding SDGs towards digital transformation.
The ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with representatives of ASEAN Youth will be from today to May 12 as part of the 42nd ASEAN Summit scheduled to be held at Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo.
The delegation represented the Sultanate at the AYD on Digital Developments for SDG last month in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The youth representatives were selected by the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY) based on their performance at the SOMY Meeting.
The representatives will participate in several activities, including attending ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth meeting with ASEAN leaders, meet and greet with the Labuan Bajo community, dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and visiting Labuan Bajo.
Acting Director of Youth and Sports Department (JBS) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Dayangku Farah Amirah binti Pengiran Redzuan, Acting Deputy Director of JBS Hajah Noor Maslina binti Haji Sulaiman along with officers from the department sent off the representatives at the Brunei International Airport, Berakas.
